“Comfort is the enemy of progress.” – PT Barnum
Virtually every decision we make and every action we take is to move closer to comfort – we are constantly in pursuit of it. The harder we work at a job, the more we push ourselves in the gym, the more time and energy we invest into our relationships, the more comfort and satisfaction we hope to eventually achieve.
Though comfort is desired, it often becomes the enemy of progress. The achievement of comfort is the beginning of laziness and complacency. In its pursuit you should be uncomfortable - it forces you to push yourself out of your comfort zone and discover new personal limits. It truly is the journey, not the destination that matters most.
Easy come, easy go. Nothing in life that you’re proud of was easily achieved. The things you’re most proud of are things you’ve donated blood, sweat, tears, and time to. Nothing in life worth having comes easy. The pride is forged in the struggle. The harder the climb, the greater the view.
The sweetness of all victories fade – often quite quickly. Success is always temporary and fleeting. We must continue to be intentional about setting new visions, dreams, and goals that pull us forward with vigor and trepidation. Only then can we embark on the journey to taste the elusive sweetness of victory.
Comfort is the enemy. Keep dreaming, keep achieving, and never settle.
